Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Unlike other Four Roses products which blend several recipes, the Single Barrel offering uses barrels of only one - the OBSV recipe (higher rye mash, "delicate fruit" yeast), aged from 7-9 years and bottled at 100 proof. Entry is splendid with flavors of light caramel, almond paste, and oaky vanilla; midpalate features tastes of toasted cereal, popcorn, and fresh honey. Aftertaste of chocolate covered walnuts and honey.
Four Roses produces bourbon differently from most major American distilleries. They distill two different mash bills: the “E” lower rye mash features 75% corn, 20% rye, 5% malted barley while the “B” higher rye mash is made with 35% rye, 60% corn, and 5% malted barley. These two mash bills are fermented with five unique strains of yeast; F, K, O, Q, and V, each of which imparts different flavors to the whiskey. These ten different bourbons are then blended to create Four Roses products.
