Founded in 1845 by Louis and Charles Isautier, Maison Isautier is located in Saint-Pierre and is the oldest distillery on Reunion Island. The island sits to the east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Reunion Island is known for its volcanic landscapes which result in mineral rich fertile soil. The sugar cane grown here develops a unique terroir and has been grown on the island for centuries. The distillery produces fresh cane juice rum like most French speaking countries, but unusually, also produces a good amount of Molasses based rum as well, which they use together in their house blends, but also bottle separately as unique expressions, as is the case with this series of extremely well aged limited rums, bottled in collaboration with La Maison & Velier.
This edition is an agricole style cane juice bottling that aged in French Oak in Reunion for 16 years. The molasses was produced from local cane and distilled on a two column still. Much like the Molasses rum the Traditional was also barreled in 2006 and bottled in 2022, with a 59% ABV.
