Lock Stock and Barrel 21 Year Rye Whiskey
This Canadian 100% rye whiskey was distilled on pot stills in 1999 and was then barreled in new charred American oak. It was allowed to age patiently for 21 years in cold weather, ensuring a gentler oak influence and allowing long aging without being overpowered by oaky tannins. Bottled at a full 55.5% abv, this is a big and bold, but also layered and complex rye.
On the nose there is warm spiced date cake, treacle toffee, orange peel, and baking spices. The palate follows with fantastic viscosity, more treacle, caramel, coconut, cocoa, cinnamon, and anise. On the finish the oak finally comes out to play, with hints of leather, smoke, and tingling spice.
